The No White Diet
I am still laughing at one consumer’s comment that, ‘this diet is racist!’
Well, racist it isn’t; but sensible it is. The simple premise of this diet is to eliminate most white food stuffs from your diet, as they are simple carbohydrates that increase the body’s production of insulin. Over-production of insulin increases hunger and the craving for more sugar. More sugar leads to weight problems and dire health issues such as diabetes.
In other words, white=bad.
Here are some examples of what you will not be eating on this diet:
- White flour (or anything made with it.)
- White bread
- White pasta
- White sugar
- White beans
- White potatoes
- White salt
You will replace them instead with their more colorful counterparts:
- Whole grain bread
- Whole wheat pasta
- Colorful vegetables
- Green leafy vegetables
- Beans of color (black beans, lentils, pinto or navy beans)
- Yams
- Fruit
Now, I said earlier most white foods stuffs aren’t allowed, but there are exceptions. Cauliflower, parsnips, egg whites and white fish are permissible.
Vegetables should be fresh; and organic if possible. However, frozen are just as packed with nutrition. Canned tend to be full of sodium and should be avoided.
Fruit juices should also be eliminated as they are high in sugar; as should sugar or salt substitutes which will trigger cravings.
Bottom line, you are incorporating a basic healthful means of eating by starting the No White Diet. It is a little limiting, but cuts down on unhealthy high glycemic index foods, and replaces them with nutritionally dense ones. Your body will adjust, the hormones in your body will balance and you’ll no longer crave salt and sugars. The only problem I can foresee with this diet is there are no outlines for portion control. The diet encourages you to replace white rice and pasta with brown and whole wheat, but these carbohydrates are still high calorie and need to be eaten in moderation. Those with portion control issues may find it hard to lose weight on this diet even if they adhere to it.
And two words…no cake???
But hey, Jennifer Anniston swears by it, and it’s received a lot of positive consumer reviews, particularly by people suffering from diabetes and heart problems who were instructed by their practitioner to lose weight. For the ‘die hards’ out there, or simply those who don’t want to die anytime soon, this is a solid, fool-proof way of preventing it…providing portion control is taken into consideration.
